Cleobury Mortimer is a small rural market town in Shropshire. The town’s parish had a population of 2,892 according to the 2011 Census, with an estimated population of 3,500 in 2017. Although often regarded as a village, it is in fact the second smallest town in Shropshire (after Clun). The date of the first known charter for a market or fair to be held on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (14 Sept) was granted on 23 March 1226, by King Henry III to Hugh de Mortimer.
